“12th Annual Leesburg Bikefest, Takes Preventative Measures to Eliminate Accidents and Fatalities”

Lake County, Florida, The City of Leesburg and The Leesburg Partnership, presenters of the annual Leesburg Bikefest, is pleased to announce the Ride Lake, Ride Safe, Look Twice!” 2008 Safety Campaign, targeting both two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles. The Leesburg Partnership, City of Leesburg, Lake County Tourism, Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services and Anheuser-Busch’s Responsibility Matters program are the driving forces in a collaborative community outreach and awareness campaign kicking off during the first week of April.

The purpose of this campaign is two-fold: to inform the citizens of Leesburg and Lake County of the influx of 300,000 motorcyclists who will be enjoying our surroundings and traveling all of the major corridors around Leesburg before, during and after the festival on April 25, 26 & 27th, as well as reminding them to exercise caution while entering intersections and before changing lanes; secondly to promote the practice of safe riding habits, considerate noise levels and re-enforce the drinking and driving laws to all motorcyclists, all the while, encouraging them to “Ride Lake-Ride Safe, Look Twice!

The Leesburg Partnership is taking a pro-active approach by coordinating meetings with county and city officials. Among those in attendance are the City of Leesburg, Leesburg Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Leesburg Partnership, Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services, FDOT, ABATE of Florida, and Anheuser-Busch. Their main objective is to develop effective strategies to prevent accidents and fatalities at this year’s event.

Some of the strategies implemented this year are: the rerouting of traffic around major corridors, police monitored and managed intersections to ensure a continuous flow of traffic, roadside message boards to inform drivers of up to-date road issues, and required TIPS training for all event serving staff. TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) is a dynamic, skills-based training program designed to prevent intoxication, drunk driving and underage drinking by enhancing the fundamental "people skills" of servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol. TIPS, proven effective by third-party studies, gives individuals the knowledge and confidence they need to recognize potential alcohol-related problems and intervene to prevent alcohol-related tragedies.

Anheuser-Busch is proud to sponsor a free ride home program for the benefit of our Leesburg Bikefest patrons.  The Alert Cab service is designed to make sure that customers who should not drive make it home safely.  Patrons will receive free transportation both to their residence, and a return trip the following day to retrieve their vehicle.

This campaign is one that will be far reaching. Advertisements will appear in The Orlando Sentinel, Daily Commercial, Lake Magazine, Hometown Magazine and various motorcycle related publications. TV and radio spots in the form of 30 and 60 second spots will be made available to stations in and around the central Florida area (Radio spots are available in both English and Spanish). Mobile billboards will travel throughout Lake County and posters will be posted at hundreds of retailers and businesses throughout the county.

Your support is greatly appreciated while we kick off the “Ride Lake-Ride Safe, Look Twice!” campaign. As always, we continue to strive to bring new tourism and business to our area.

Feel free to insert your logo or organization name to show your support for our campaign. We’ll be honored to supply high-resolution digital images of posters and advertisements for your use. Video PSAs are also available to be used on your website.  To arrange for this option, please email kc@oryancreative.com

Comments: Well boys I saw your show at the Leesburg Bike fest...My fifth trip. I will tell you what I think and that is ya all should have had the main stage.

I was knocked out by how full, how complete, how different the show was, how power full the music and how fun the original tunes were....the tributes to the old blues makers the quality of play from a three man band was just...hum mm what can I say about that...I just can't explain it.
The non stop performance..and the mingling in the crowd with the playing the wash board and the cowbell...mixed in with that fine Resonating Guitar (Dobro) was more than expected of a bike fest band.

BUT...not to forget the point...the *Gumbo*...the *Sauce*..the *Charity Fund Raising* and the cooking of the *GUMBO* and band serving it to the crowd for free, after playing your butts of in the sun. THEN coming out and shaking hands with the crowd as if we did the work...to good just to good.

I could listen to you guys "A Hundred Times a Day"....and never get tired of the "Sweet Stuff"

Thanks for all the memories...I have tons of pictures if you'd care for them....and I hope that chick on stage had a real Happy birthday.

James Ft Myers Fl

PS. as soon as I figure it out how to get in touch I want the video CD with the cook book the restaurant listings and the songs to go with my "Sauce Boss Raw"

Subject: Doesn't look as good as in the past. No biker games, not enough drill teams, too much ride like a pro, too many amateur bands. Doesn't seem as good as expected. People that show up probably didn't read the schedule. I thought it was supposed to be better than last year.

Subject: EVENT FEEDBACK Bravo! Who needs Dayton Bike Week?!?!?!?

It was out first time and we were thrilled at our experiences. We arrived at 10:30 AM and left at 6 PM. Daytona Bike Week only holds our attention for about 2 hours. Everything was better -- the sights (woo woo), the vendors (we spent way more), more toilets, more entertainment, better food, more parking on main street (very cool), people were more friendly (even the characters).
The availability of $1.00 bottles of water was greatly appreciated, and no fear drinking lots of it because clean, well attended bathroom facilities were everywhere.

Thank you for a wonderful day (we went on Saturday).

We will see you next year, with 10 guests!

Best regards, Bill and Roxanne

Subject: You have done it again Hey Joe and Staff, You guys make this Motorcycle Event thing look "way too easy". Again, you have impressed the Motorcycle Monster and have received our highest ranking of national events. FIVE MONSTERS...Yippee....The crowd was more impressive than ever. The vendors awsome, the bands "outrageous", and the hospitality "the best in the nation". We had an absolutely great week-end working with our friends at J and P cycles and I promise we'll be back again and again. If this is not "the best biker event anywhere" I'd be very surprized, "Keep Up The Great Work". Enjoy your success, you have deserved it with another "Fantastic Job".

Dear Mr. Shipes:

Though not a fan of Bikefest I feel compelled to write and thank you and your staff for what could only be described as a truly magnificently orchestrated event. The many visitors I talked to over the three days were all appreciative of the obvious effort that was put forth to insure that the weekend was safe and enjoyable. Most everyone commented how much better Leesburg was compared to Daytona,.

Thus, my thanks to you and your staff for you effort in making my community a great place to live.

Sincerely Chuck Johnson
